Golf at Big Stone – A Unique Northwoods Challenge
Play a Course That’s Fun for All Skill Levels
Big Stone Golf Course offers a distinctive nine-hole layout where each set of tees provides a fresh and strategic challenge. With a course slope of 111 and a 32.9 USGA rating, accuracy on approach shots is key to scoring well. Our greens are consistently fast, true, and professionally maintained.
Relaxed Vibes with Respect for Nature
At Big Stone, we embrace a laid-back approach to the game. While we won’t dictate your golf wardrobe, we kindly ask all players to keep their shirts on.
To comply with Wisconsin law, outside coolers and beverages are not permitted. Our clubhouse staff will gladly prepare a stocked cooler with your favorite drinks and ice for on-course use.
From deer and geese to our iconic swans, Gus & Gertrude, the course is home to diverse wildlife. We prioritize environmental stewardship by using only eco-friendly products and methods. Please respect the animals that share this beautiful land—it’s their home, too.
Staying True to the “Just For Fun” Philosophy of Marty’s Three Lakes Golf Club
Originally opened as Marty’s Three Lakes Golf Club, Big Stone was part of Carl Marty’s legendary Northernaire Resort, set along the shores of Deer and Big Stone Lakes. For over 74 years, the course has stayed true to its founder’s “just for fun” philosophy while growing into a beloved local favorite.
Recent Course Improvements
Since purchasing the course in 2016, Three Lakes locals Ed & Sue Jacobsen and Jerry Schiedt have made major improvements, including:
A beautiful new clubhouse built in 2017 with a full bar, kitchen, logo merchandise, and a spacious patio
A circular driveway with bag drop and ADA-compliant parking
A quiet, modern fleet of Yamaha golf carts
Rebuilt and lengthened tees on Holes 1, 3, 5, and 8
Upgraded cart paths on Holes 1, 3, 6, and 8
More than 2,500 saplings and 30 mature trees planted throughout the course
Leveled and re-sodded fairways to eliminate low spots
A brand-new pavilion (2021) for hosting weddings, reunions, baby showers, and more
